Would my child benefit from Feeding Therapy?
Feeding is so much more than eating...
For infants, toddlers, and young children, feeding skills are developed over time -- and sometimes kids need a little extra support to get there. That's where we come in!
Our occupational therapist has advanced training in complex feeding disorders and is soon to be a SOFFI Certified Professional (Supporting Oral Feeding in Fragile Infants). This means we can support even our tiniest patients with evidence-based care!
Individualized feeding therapy sessions are available to specifically target the fine motor skills, oral motor skills, and sensory processing skills needed for eating and drinking.
These sessions are intended for those children who:
- are having difficulty transitioning from bottles to purees/solids
- are beginning to wean from tube feeding
- demonstrate tactile and/or oral sensitivities to accepting foods
- gag or choke when eating or drinking
- have difficulty chewing
- are considered "picky" eaters
- have a limited number of foods in their diet
- have difficulty using utensils
- have difficulty drinking from a straw or open cup
- have poor weight gain/growth
- generally do not enjoy or are fearful/anxious during mealtimes
At Onward Pediatric Therapies, we approach feeding therapy through fun, play-based, low-pressure, low-stress interventions. We include caregivers as much as possible during feeding sessions, so you can leave feeling confident to carry over these strategies at home!
