This is different for everyone!
We often say the two best times to consider an intensive are:
- If you feel like your child is on the cusp of meeting a new goal or milestone and needs a little extra push
- If you feel like your child has plateaued or you are not seeing ideal progress with traditional therapy approaches
That being said there is SO much to consider (cost, travel, work-schedules, etc.) and we are happy to discuss this with you individually.
If your child follows with any medical specialists, it is always advised to seek their input and consider any upcoming medical procedures or appointments that may influence your decision.
This also depends on your child!
The benefits of an intensive continue long after the intensive itself is over. The brain and body need time to consolidate and master all of the new skills that were targeted.
Typically 8-12 weeks between an intensive is advised. This may be shorter or longer depending on the length of the intensive and/or your child's response.
We are happy to talk about this with you individually!
Kids are so resiliant and constantly exceed our expectations!
Typically if a child is over 6 months of age, tolerating an hour-long session is doable. We combine a lot of different modalities during our intensives which allows us to pivot and change activities if needed. We definitely provide adequate rest time and will follow your child's cues.
Children often cry during therapy sessions. This isn't necessarily a bad thing! We will be doing challenging things with them and this is their body's response. We expect crying and are not bothered by this, but again we will look to you as their parent to gauge their response and adjust accordingly.
When planning the intensive, endurance will be a consideration when choosing the duration and length of the program.
We understand that life happens!
If you need to cancel your intensive for a documented medical emergency, your deposit may used for a future intensive for up to 1 year from the date of your originally scheduled intensive. For any other reason, please reach out.
If your child becomes sick in the middle of the intensive or is unable to complete due to medical concerns, you will not be charged for the remainder of sessions.
If Franklin County is under a level 2 or 3 snow emergency, your sessions may be cancelled or rescheduled. Your therapist will reach out to you in this circumstance.
If Onward Pediatric Therapies cancels your intensive (either for weather, illness or personal emergency) and we are unable to reschedule at a time convenient to you, you will be fully refunded.
